Last month, we introduced Ride USD, a settlement asset designed to reduce processing costs and modernize how transportation payments settle across transit, parking, tolls, and other mobility services.

Lowering transaction fees is only half the equation. The other half is driving demand.

Today, we’re introducing Universal Ride Token (URT) — a rewards protocol built specifically for transportation, designed to influence travel behavior, modernize commuter benefits, and unlock new, partner-funded demand across mobility networks.

URT creates a shared, interoperable incentive layer across transit, parking, tolls, rideshare, micromobility, charging-fueling, and other mobility services — without adding complexity for riders or operators.

What Is URT?

Universal Ride Token (URT) is the rewards currency of the Ride Ecosystem. It is designed to be earned through everyday transportation activity and redeemed exclusively for mobility-related value.

URT has a fixed, guaranteed value: 1,000 URT = 1 Ride USD

URT is 100% backed by Ride USD. For every URT minted, an equivalent amount of Ride USD is locked in escrow within the Ride Ecosystem. URT cannot be issued without backing, ensuring stability, predictability, and trust for riders, operators, employers, and public agencies.

URT is not a payment method. It does not replace fares, tickets, or cards. Instead, it operates as a universal incentive layer on top of existing payment systems.

The Problem URT Solves: Rewards That Don’t Move People

Transportation incentives today are fragmented and ineffective:

  • Transit rewards don’t work across all modes

  • Commuter benefits are locked to prepaid cards

  • Government and City incentives are hard to distribute and audit

  • Travel rewards don’t connect to local mobility

These non-interoperable rewards programs limit reach, dilute impact, and fail to influence real travel behavior. URT replaces fragmentation with one shared rewards standard for mobility.

How Riders Obtain URT

Riders can earn or receive URT in three primary ways:

1. By Taking Rides

URT is issued automatically when riders use participating transportation services — including transit, parking, tolls, rideshare, micromobility, charging and fueling — based on verified usage.

2. Through Employers

Employers can distribute URT as commuter benefits or mobility incentives. Instead of reimbursements or restricted debit cards, URT delivers transportation-only value that works across multiple modes.

3. Through Partners

URT can be issued by ecosystem partners to drive mobility demand, including:

  • Cities rewarding off-peak or alternative travel

  • Travel platforms enabling riders to book flights or hotels and receive URT for local transit

  • Universities, venues, and events incentivizing specific transportation choices

Because URT is redeemable only for mobility, incentives stay focused on transportation outcomes.

How Operators and Partners Mint URT

URT is minted on Solana by approved operators and partners through RideDEX, the clearinghouse of the Ride Ecosystem.

To mint URT:

  • Ride USD is allocated to a RideDEX account

  • URT is minted at a fixed rate (1,000 URT = 1 Ride USD)

  • The Ride USD is locked in escrow to fully back issuance

This ensures supply discipline, full collateralization, and auditable issuance.

How URT Is Redeemed by Operators

When riders redeem URT:

  • URT is collected at redemption

  • URT transfers instantly from the distributor account to the operator’s RideDEX account

  • The operator can convert URT into Ride USD at any time through RideDEX

Settlement is immediate, predictable, and automated. Operators receive Ride USD without reconciliation delays or loyalty accounting complexity.

How Current Transportation Benefits Fall Short

Traditional commuter benefits rely on vouchers, reimbursements, and restricted debit cards — systems that are slow, fragmented, and prone to misuse. While these tools were designed to simplify benefit distribution, they introduce structural inefficiencies for both employers and riders.

Common issues include:

  • Acceptance failures at certain transportation merchants or modes

  • Delayed settlement and reconciliation, especially for reimbursements

  • Unused or stranded balances that never convert into transportation usage

  • Network fees and interchange costs applied to small, frequent transactions

  • Limited flexibility across transportation modes and providers

As a result, a meaningful portion of transportation benefits does not translate into actual mobility usage or rider value, reducing the effectiveness of employer-funded programs.

Better Commuter Benefits

URT modernizes commuter benefits by:

  • Enabling instant digital distribution

  • Ensuring value can only be spent on transportation

  • Allowing riders to choose the mode that works best

  • Reducing transaction fees

  • Providing transparent, auditable usage for employers

The result: less waste, more flexibility, and better outcomes.

Influencing Demand in Real Time

URT’s real power is not just rewards — it’s behavioral influence at the moment of decision.

Modern trip-planning apps already show routes and prices. With URT, they can show the most rewarding choice:

  • Earn URT for off-peak travel

  • Receive incentives for less congested routes

  • Redeem URT for multimodal trips

Trip-planning apps evolve from passive maps into active demand-management tools, without fare changes or new infrastructure.

Why URT Is a Game Changer

URT transforms incentives into a network-wide demand and revenue engine:

  • A shared rewards standard across operators and modes

  • Fixed, fully backed value suitable for public and enterprise use

  • Real-time influence through trip planning

  • Partner-funded incentives that create net-new demand

  • Rewards that stay in transportation

  • Instant funds settlement

  • No disruption to existing systems

URT enables incremental trips and revenue, funded by employers, cities, and partners — not just fare increases.

Pilot Opportunities

URT is now available for pilot programs with:

  • Transit agencies and operators

  • Cities and public-sector partners

  • Employers and commuter benefit providers

  • Benefits software platforms

  • Trip planning and travel platforms

Pilots integrate with existing systems, require no hardware replacement, and focus on measurable outcomes.
